HUB 17, NYC

On December 20, Sestra Kuya presented a live performance as part of Beauty and Terror at Hub 17, Staten Island, alongside Modern Day Machines. For the first time, the duo extended their practice beyond sound and live electricity painting into a fully integrated moving image on stage. Collaborating with musician and modular artist Derek Teutonico, the shifting surface of anodized titanium was filmed live, transmitted across multiple monitors, and fed directly into his modular video system - activated and modulated by Sestra Kuya’s sound. What emerged was not documentation, but continuation. Image and audio unfolded together in real time, bound by the same electrical current that defines Sestra Kuya’s work. The titanium surface became both instrument and screen; voltage became color, sound, and motion simultaneously. The performance functioned as a single living circuit—where visual and sonic signals were inseparable, continuously influencing one another.
